Team Black goes down to a strong Premier Hotel outfit
Team Black Goes Down To A Strong Premier Outfit
Playing only their third game together the boys travelled to Johnson Park to take on the Premier Hotel. Loosing the toss again the boys were sent into bat (would have batted first if I had one the toss anyway). Scoring an unimpressive ?? assisted by the in form Matt Vella and Troy Potts playing his first game for the blacks the boys always felt we were about 40 runs short. The Premier Hotel innings starting in a hurry with both opening bowlers being hit from the start. Reece Woodcroft claimed the first wicket. A dropped catch allowed the Premier Hotel to get on top (it is a cruel game cricket) with the opposition winning with a number of over to spare. Some valuable lessons learnt from the boys who continue to improve each week.
Some of the standouts
Matt Vella again strong doing the triple batting, bowling and wicketkeeping. Matt also managed to clear the field, the cars and take out an awning across the road.
Chris Watt continues to impress each week with solid bowling performances even after being belted from the start.
Mark Bradley playing his first season continues to demonstrate commitment to the team and club in the field he was good for saving 20 runs, now if we can only get you to make some runs Mark?
Martin Slade the ultimate team man who managed to knock together a few runs, bowl and take an important catch during the game.
Catches win matches boys and there is no better example of that saying than this.

VECC Blacks Impressive Over Tough GRH Outfit
The VECC C5 Blacks managed to score its second victory in a row on the weekend against the much fancied GRH. Batting first the GRH scored an impressive 174 on the blacks new home ground of Marks Oval at Floraville. Impressive bowling again from Chris Watt 3/19 after being belted for a 6 of only the second ball of the game a great comeback to record these figures from 10 overs. Reece Woodcroft again after some early punishment finished with the impressive figures of 3/39 off 10 overs. In trouble chasing the runs at 5/74 and impressive 80 run partnership between opening batsman Matt Vella and captain David Jackson (33 runs) stabilised the innings resulting in a one wicket victory with 3 overs to spare. The most impressive display of the day was by Matt Vella hitting 116 not out and sending balls to every corner of the ground. The boys got there in the end but only just expect a lot tougher opposition the next time we play them. See below some photos from the game. Photos courtesy of www.windingcreek.net.au. Points 3 Matt Vella, 2 Chris Watt, 1 Reece Woodcroft.

VECC Team Black Start Season 09/10 with a victory
Well its been a long time coming and with record registrations the VECC machine started its 09/10 campaign on Saturday with some mixed results. The newest team in the club the blacks kicked of the season with a victory against Dora Creek at Rathmines. Loosing the toss and starting in the field the blacks started the wicket haul early in the game thanks mainly to opening bowling pair of Chris Watt & Matt Clancy who ended up collecting 2 wickets each. New club member Reece Woodcroft demonstrated he will be a force to be reckoned with this season collecting 5/2 off 6 overs. Dora Creek were all out for 64 thanks also to some impressive catching from Matt Vella with 3 catches. The VECC batting started shaky as expected with no formal lineup as yet. The inning was stabilised and eventuially won by Matt Vella and Alan Rashid finishing with 22 and 16 not out respectfully.
Players of the match points Reece Wooldcroft 3 points on debut, Alan Rashid 2 points again on debut and Matt Vella 1 point.
On to a home game at our new ground on Saturday Marks Oval v The General Roberts.
